Dangerous Goods in Finland

DHL has the right solutions also for the transport of dangerous goods. These transports are regulated by international and national regulations, each transport mode by its own. They restrict the maximum amounts to be transported, regulate which goods can be transported in the same unit, etc.
DHL transports dangerous goods by air in accordance with international and national regulations.

The shipper is responsible for correct classification, packing, marking and declaration of the dangerous goods in accordance with the prevailing national and international regulations.

Information and documents required for the transport of dangerous goods need to be delivered to DHL in good time before transport.

Dangerous Goods charges
Dangerous Goods are always subject to local and / or national DGR fees.
DHL transports dangerous goods by sea in accordance with international and national regulations.

The shipper is responsible for correct classification, packing, marking and declaration of the dangerous goods in accordance with the prevailing national and international regulations.

Information and documents required for the transport of dangerous goods need to be delivered to DHL in good time before transport.

International transports by sea are regulated by the IMDG Code.

Dangerous Goods charges
Dangerous Goods are always subject to local and / or national DGR fees.

DHL transports dangerous goods by road and rail in accordance with national and international ADR regulations. Transport schedule for dangerous goods is separately agreed upon.

In international transports DHL does not carry dangerous goods class 1 (explosive substances and articles; certain exceptions omitted), class 6.2 (infectious substances) or class 7 (radioactive material). In addition, class 4.2 (substances liable to spontaneous combustion) is prohibited in Finnish domestic transports.
The shipper is responsible for correct classification, packing, marking and declaration of the dangerous goods in accordance with the prevailing national and international regulations. More information on the required documents can be found in the chapter 5.4 of the regulations.
The required documents are:
  • Multimodal Dangerous Goods Form, required for transport by sea (form below)
  • Waybill (domestic or CMR) with appropriate classification, in local official language, CMR in English, German or French
Information and documents required for the transport of dangerous goods needs to be delivered to DHL in good time before transport.

In addition, DHL makes sure that all transport equipment is equiped with emergency instruction cards for road transport (in the official languages of despatch country, any transit country as well as destination country).
Dangerous goods transports require additional measures, such as marking the transports units, declarations to authorities and shipping companies, handling of documents etc. Dangerous Goods are subject to local and / or national DGR fees which are debited separately.
International dangerous goods transports by road are subject to international ADR agreement, which is with minor exceptions - identical with Finnish national VAK regulations.

Since Finland is separated from the continental Europe by sea, the IMDG code concerning international sea transports will also apply for surface transports practically without exception.

International dangerous goods transports by rail are subject to international RID regulations, which are with minor exceptions - identical with Finnish national VAK rail regulations.

For rail traffic between Finland and Russia (and other CIS countries) a bilateral agreement applies.
