Worldwide Address Structure

Your item will reach another country faster and more securely with the following tips for the address structure.

Tips for the Address Structure

DHL Article
1. Provide the address in Roman lettering without empty lines on the right side lengthwise (add the postcode and the number of the delivery area if necessary). If other lettering and numbers are used in the destination country, the address should also be provided in that country's writing style.
2. Write the destination city and destination country in capital letters directly below the recipient's name. Provide the name of the destination city in the language of the destination county if possible (e.g. WIEN instead of VIENNA). The destination country is usually in the last line of the address and should be provided in English, French, or German.
3. Franking impressions, if any, should only be applied to the upper right corner on the address side.
4. Always provide the sender's complete address in the upper left corner. Provide the name of the country in the language of the destination country if possible (e.g. Italy for items from Italy into the USA).

Requirements

If the country of shipment's language is not widely used in the destination country, the recipient's address should be provided in that country's language or another language that is familiar there.
For items to less well-known destinations abroad, the location is to be described in further detail in the address.
Please always provide full unabbreviated postcodes.
For items whose address labels are written in Arabic, Chinese, Greek, Japanese, Cyrillic, or other characters that are not commonly recognized, the following must be provided by the sender capitalized in Roman lettering (print):
  • for normal items: destination city and destination country
  • for items to be verified: recipient's name, destination city and destination country
